Ashland State of the City Address highlights Tuesday Council Agenda

Ashland Mayor John Stromberg opened the New Year with a “State of the City” address at the beginning of the regular City Council meeting at the Civic Center on East Main Street. Airing live on RVTV Channel 9 on Charter Cable and Ashland Home Net and streaming live here on the RVTV website, the Mayor spoke only from a set of notes and not a prepared statement.

Topics the Mayor highlighted included the importance of a sustainable local democracy with an activist council and activist mayor, the Ashland Watershed, Asante, the North Main Road Diet and other transportation points, GMOs, gun control, the Pacific Connector Pipeline, and plastic bags. While the whole council meeting was filmed, you can skip straight to the State of the City address here.

Mayor Stromberg and his wife Jane moved to Ashland in 2000 and John was appointed to the Planning Commission in 2005. He was elected Mayor in 2008 and re-elected to the position in 2012 for a term that runs through 2016. He hosts a monthly live TV show, Ashland Town Hall, from the RVTV studios. All City meetings and studio shows are archived on the City website, click here for meetings or here for Town Hall studio shows.
