County Budget Cuts to RVTV & Others Featured in Mail Tribune Report

The long list of agencies and service providers who have been targeted for significant reductions or termination of contracts by the Jackson County Budget Committee was examined further in a follow up report by reporter Ryan Pfeil in the Medford Mail Tribune this morning. It included a segment on the RVTV and 5 O Clock Marketing contracts that provide for televised meetings and studio shows. Jackson County has televised County Commissioner, Land Use, Planning, and Budget meetings for the past 15 years on the RVTV system via Charter Cable channels 9, and 14, and has provided support funding for Citizen channel 15. Faced with declining cable subscriptions, RVTV undertook a major overhaul just over one year ago, converting to the Telvue programming and video on demand server systems. As a result, all live meetings and studio shows, and all replays of those events, stream live via the RVTV website under the “Watch” tab. County meetings, shows, and short features are also archived on the County website for viewing on demand. You can read the article online here @mailtribune: MMT Article 4/16

The Budget process is not a done deal, as County Commissioners still must give final approval. Citizen input is going to be essential if the Board is to revisit the TV issue. The current RVTV contract would expire on June 30, 2013 if the Budget Committee decision is not reversed.
