Soccer enthusiasts in the Grants Pass area have the ear of the City Council in an effort to create a soccer complex at Allen Creek Community Park. Advocates envision a 12-acre complex that would relieve the strain on current facilities and attract top notch teams and tournaments to the City.
Parks and Community Development Director Michael Black is asking for the Council to put out an Request for Proposals for the complex, which would be built and operated by public fund raising efforts, including grants. An RFP is needed for the design of the facility to take place at a cost of around $100,000, while the complex itself would cost millions.
Councilors agreed to move the item onto a future Council agenda so official action can be taken. When complete, the Allen Creek complex would compliment the US Cellular Community Park in Medford where baseball, softball, soccer, and a host of other activities and tournaments are hosted. These athletic facilities are proven to provide significant economic benefit to the region.
