Medford Council Mulls Property Purchase

MedfordA big component in the re-vitalization of Downtown Medford is a need for additional parking capacity. The Medford City Council had a proposal on the table at the Noon meeting today to purchase, in partnership with a private firm, a portion of the Red Lion Hotel property along Riverside avenue. The City portion of the property would be converted into additional public parking spaces, near the new Commons Parks projects and development around the new Lithia headquarters.

A parking easement, potential environmental concerns, and deed restirctions were discussed, as well as the City’s share of the overall purchase price. Council added some stipulations for Staff to include and the proposed agreement will come back before Council for final approval soon. Council at Noon also approved the new name for the Commons Parks complex, with Pear Blossom Park prevailing as the top choice, that also includes a Founders Square.

The Thursday Noon City Council meeting replays each Thursday evening at 5pm leading into the 7pm Council session. Channel 14 also streams live on the RVTV website if you’re not near a television or not a Charter Cable subscriber. To catch the live stream click here.
