Batzer Bulldozers to push dirt on New Ballfields in Medford

The Medford City Council awarded the construction contract for Phase 4 of the US Cellular Community Park complex, a 132 acre facility across I-5 from the Rogue Valley Manor. The complex is already home to Harry and David Field, the Jefferson Nature Center, a 4 field softball complex, over a dozen soccer fields, and football/soccer stadium. Phase 4 will construct 3 new baseball fields between March and September this year that will finish out the master plan. See the Council action to award the contract here.

USCCP has generated outstanding economic benefit for the region, playing host to nearly 1 million visitors since opening in 2008. Over 90% of the people who use the facilities are local residents, providing an outstanding health and recreation benefit. Along with the addition of the three baseball fields, there will also be a restroom building and 205 new parking spaces, which will use up the last big tract of open space in the park, along I-5 north of the softball complex.

Also at the noon meeting, Medford Parks and Recreation Director Brian Sjothun presented Council with the annual report for USCCP, complete with tournaments hosted, number of participants involved, and economic impacts associated with activity at the park. You can view his report here.
